Josh Luber studied at Emory University and earned his law degree there. He has collected sneakers since childhood and owns over 400 pairs. While working as a strategy consultant at IBM, he started Campless in 2012 to play with sneaker sales data.
Campless analyzed public resale prices and worked as a price guide for shoes. In 2015 Dan Gilbert, founder of Quicken Loans, acquired it, and Luber moved to Detroit.
StockX launched in February 2016 with co-founders Greg Schwartz and Chris Kaufman. Buyers place bids and sellers set asks, and every pair is inspected before it ships.
The company raised $110 million at a $1 billion valuation in 2019 and $255 million at over $3.8 billion in April 2021. It had a data breach in 2019, and Scott Cutler became CEO that year. Luber's exit as CEO came in 2019 or 2020.
