ShareChat co-founder and CEO

Ankush Sachdeva's story

A dated timeline of the IIT Kanpur graduate behind ShareChat and Moj.

Ankush Sachdeva is a graduate of IIT Kanpur. With classmates Bhanu Pratap Singh and Farid Ahsan he incorporated Mohalla Tech on 8 January 2015. The company's product, ShareChat, was built for users who wanted to post in their own languages rather than English.

In 2016 ShareChat opened up to user-generated content. In 2018 it accused ByteDance of copying its design in the Helo app, and a Delhi High Court direction led ByteDance to change Helo. In 2019 it acquired Clip, and in 2020 it bought Elanic, Memer and Circle Internet.

Moj launched in June 2020 and Sachdeva tweeted that it was coded in 30 hours. A $40 million round came in September 2020. In May 2022 Google, Times Group and Temasek put in $300 million at a $5 billion valuation, and ShareChat bought MX TakaTak from Times Internet for $700 million.

In January 2023 Singh and Ahsan stepped down and Sachdeva stayed as CEO. The company cut jobs several times, including about 400 in January 2023. It launched the microdrama platform QuickTV in 2025. Operating revenue was about Rs 723 crore in FY25, and the adjusted EBITDA loss fell 72 percent.
