The idea came from a dull problem. Building a website for their consulting work, they found that testing it on old versions of Internet Explorer took the most time. They found more than 100 developers complaining about the same thing online, then opened a free beta in 2011. About 10,000 people used it in the first month.
A $19 a month pay-as-you-go plan made the company profitable almost from the start. Early hiring was hard because the team worked out of a coffee shop. Mobile app testing took almost three years to build. Accel led a $50 million Series A in January 2018.
In 2021 a $200 million round led by BOND valued BrowserStack at $4 billion. Deque Systems sued over its accessibility products in 2024, and a US federal court dismissed the complaint in January 2025. The founders pledged Rs 100 crore to IIT Bombay in 2025, and the company ran a $125 million share buyback in January 2026.
